Remove failed head pigmentation / head tattoo / tricho pigmentation

Head pigmentation (also called scalp pigmentation or trichopigmentation) has been around for many years. This is a very sophisticated permanent make-up technique that can be used to achieve a very natural optical hair simulation on the scalp (especially to conceal bald spots or leaking, too thin hair). Done skillfully, this technique can provide a wonderful and affordable alternative to other permanent hair loss treatments.

The word trichopigmentation (or head or scalp pigmentation) comes from the Latin: “tricho” = hair, “pigmentation” = to color, to dye, i.e. “to give hair color” or “to pigment the scalp”. It is probably the most modern non-surgical method of concealing hair loss or baldness.

Examples of successful scalp pigmentation / head tattooing / hair simulation on bald heads

A good, professional scalp hair simulation using permanent make-up leads to a very realistic, harmonious overall picture, which looks deceptively real and can give the customer a new attitude towards life. Thin hair looks denser (female customers in particular benefit from hair thickening using trichopigmentation), male bald heads are not so noticeable.

Another benefit is the ability to pigment even scarred skin tissue. Not only is the visual effect of existing hair achieved, but the color of the scars can be adapted to the rest of the scalp.

The scalp pigmentation fades over time. You can then refresh it again or – if your own hair grows again or the hair simulation is no longer desired for other reasons – you can simply let it fade completely.

Unfortunately, the reality is often far enough removed from the wishful thinking. If the treatment is not carried out correctly, the well-intentioned experiment ends with blotchy, blurry, color-mismatched results. In such cases, the disappointed customer only wants one thing: undo the head tattoo so that he can finally be among the people without a cap…

Luckily, scalp pigmentation can be removed (in whole or in part) with our PigmentOff Remover method. Depending on the initial situation, this procedure sometimes requires a lot of patience, time and cooperation from the customer.

How long does it take to remove pigmented scalp hair?

The number of sessions depends on a few factors:
  • are the hairs/dots tattooed deep into the scalp or only superficially pigmented?
  • did the scalp pigmentation cause scars? (this is often the case if you have done the hair simulation using microblading)
  • are skin tones used in trichopigmentation or just brownish and gray pigments?
  • have there been unsuccessful attempts to remove the scalp pigmentation with a laser? Has a laser treatment been performed that has caused color changes in the pigmented hair?
  • has the scalp pigmentation failed as a whole or are there isolated areas that are blurry or appear unreal in terms of colour?
If the pigments are superficially implanted in the head skin, 2-3 removal treatments are usually sufficient to remove or maximally lighten them. If they are deep in the skin and/or are accompanied by scars, you have to reckon with up to 10 sessions at intervals of 3-4 weeks.

What is the cost of removing a head tattoo?

This question cannot be answered in general terms either. The decisive factor is the area to be removed and the number of sessions required. A guideline: the initial treatment (incl. care products for use at home) costs around 200-250 euros (duration around 1.5 hours), and 100-150 euros are charged for each follow-up treatment.

More information: Mode of action and composition. With the PigmentOff-Remover method, the pigments are removed from the skin in a similar way as they were implanted at the time. This means they are transported to the surface of the skin and do not remain in the body. When used professionally, this method is fast, scar-free and very effective, since pigments of any type and color can be removed.
